Itchy eyes that you can barely open. Scratchy throat. Sneezing that won't quit. The "cold" you had that won't go away that you now realize is allergies. If you've dealt with allergy season in Vegas, you know the absolute misery. You've probably had someone tell you to try local honey, and maybe you rolled your eyes a little.

The Idea
Local raw honey has trace amounts of local pollen in it. Same pollen that's wrecking you every spring and fall. Small consistent exposure builds up tolerance over time, kind of like an allergy shot, just slower and a lot cheaper and probably healthier for you.
What's Actually Blooming Here
Mulberry, olive, Bermuda grass, ragweed, sagebrush, ash, oak, juniper. Trees hit hardest in spring, March through May. Then ragweed and sagebrush come back around for round two in the fall, August through October.
How I Used It, And How My Son Did Too
In my experience, it took about three years of using local honey consistently before I noticed a major difference in my seasonal allergies. Each year, I felt that my symptoms became less noticeable. That is my personal experience, not a promise that someone else will have the same result. I cannot stress this enough: take it daily, or at least five days a week.
My son started around age five with just a teaspoon, and by six his allergies were basically gone. Faster than mine. He's 19 now and still allergy-free. (His full story is coming in its own post.)
During allergy season, local honey and our Aronia Elderberry Syrup are also foods we choose to include in our family's routine.
How to Use Local Honey for Allergies
- A spoonful daily, ideally starting before allergy season ramps up
- Consistency matters more than the amount. Daily beats occasional
- Raw honey only, that's the unfiltered kind that still has the pollen in it
Our fermented honey starts with local honey and is fermented with certified-organic garlic, ginger, and turmeric. It is almost always in stock, even when the plain raw honey sells out.
It's not fast, and it's not guaranteed. Most people struggle to stick with anything long-term, us included. But committing to it can ease symptoms year after year until they're largely gone. It did for both of us.

Don't Live in Vegas? Still Worth Trying
If you're outside Las Vegas, don't skip local honey just because it's not your local. Different regions mean different pollen, and sourcing honey from multiple regions, including ours, can help build broader pollen immunity over time. See Local Honey in Las Vegas: Where to Find It for where locals actually buy it.
Basic Honey Safety
Honey should not be given to children under age one.
Consult an allergist if you have a pollen or bee-product allergy.
Tried it? Skeptical? Were you consistent for a long period without giving up? Either way, we want to hear about it.
