Raw local honey is near and dear to my heart, and it started this whole journey. Using local raw honey is what freed me of my seasonal allergies (you can read that full story here). Of course, in my natural line of thinking, I started to wonder how I could make it even better.
This is when our fermented honey, using local Las Vegas raw wildflower honey, was born. It is our honey fermented with garlic, ginger, and turmeric.
What Is Fermented Honey with Garlic, Ginger & Turmeric
We start with the same raw local honey base we use across everything else, then ferment it with garlic, ginger, turmeric, and a splash of apple cider vinegar. I know it sounds like a weird mix, but fermentation changes the flavors completely, the garlic and ginger end up almost like candied. The feedback we get most is that it's addictively delicious.
Why Garlic, Ginger & Turmeric
These aren't random additions. They're three of the most well-established natural ingredients for immune support, and honey is a natural carrier for all three. Garlic brings its natural antimicrobial properties, ginger is known for settling digestion and easing inflammation, and turmeric is one of the most researched anti-inflammatory foods out there. A lot of turmeric recipes lean on black pepper to help the body absorb it better. Ginger works on some of the same absorption pathways, so we let it do that job here instead. Fermenting them together lets the flavors meld instead of just sitting side by side in the jar.
Why We Ferment It Ourselves
A lot of "fermented honey" products on the market are really just infused, ingredients dropped in honey with no real fermentation time behind them. Ours goes through a long fermentation process instead. Our garlic and ginger are chopped up well for ease of use, texture, and flavor, and we add a splash of apple cider vinegar, which is what gives it the depth of flavor (and the bit of tang) that infused versions don't have.
How to Use It
- A spoonful or two once a day
- Mixed with our Fire Cider and used as a salad dressing
- As a topping for veggies or meat
- Added to your favorite wrap
Always in Stock
Because it's shelf-stable and doesn't depend on raw honey being in season, fermented honey is one of the few products we can almost always keep in stock, even when our plain raw local honey sells out.
